Our Mission

Dedicated to Exceptional Swimming Instruction

Having previously run Australia’s biggest swim schools in Queensland and coaching of Tasmania’s largest Swimming Club, the coaches at Southern Seals Swim School know what it takes to provide exceptional swimming instruction with some of the most experienced coaches in the state.

Lessons For All Levels

All of our customers are amazed at how quickly their children progress through their aquatic learning adventure with us.
To be honest, it’s because we are so good at what we do.
We don’t overly push the children, rather, we encourage and show them how good they can be.
As your child progresses, we move them along to be with other children of the same ability so they can demonstrate their new abilities to the others and in turn be encouraged by their peers and encourage them.
We don’t leave a child in the same class all term, we move them along as long as it fits in with your schedule.
WE are very experienced with partnering with neurodivergent and special needs children and their parents in developing individual learning plans and programs.
No two children are alike, so our programs are flexible and adapt to the needs of your precious child.
We show children how to be comfortable, safe, confident and capable in the water.

Level 1 Water Babies

No, not peanut butter and jelly – these are our Parent and Baby classes in which we have three levels. These sessions are tailor made to fit YOUR child and fit in with your learning and parenting style. Warm, friendly, nurturing, musical and so, so educational.

Level 2 Tadpoles

Our beginner classes. Maximum of FOUR!! We have a platform so our children can learn comfortably. Some of our children have come to us terrified of the water, others so confident they are a danger to themselves. They ALL leave this level comfortable and safe.

Level 3 Frogs

We are learning “big arms” and fixing our kick, we will leave this level being able to fall in and easily get back to the side, comfortable in deep water and ready to GO. We will go into the next level ready to do freestyle and backstroke and so much more.

Level 4 Guppies

Our little fish. This is the hard work class – repetition, repetition, repetition. One of the coaches that taught me how to teach (Laurie Lawrence) has a great saying “You’ve been told ‘Practice makes perfect’ no, Perfect practice makes perfect” many of the children that come to us have developed bad habits in their swimming. We will fix them up.

Level 5 Dolphins

WE can swim! (of sorts), This is where we get better, stronger and learn some more skills like breaststroke, butterfly and improve our diving.

Level 6 Sharks

We are rockin it now. We are getting stronger and longer and fine tuning everything, Ready to take on the world.

Your Child Deserves Exceptional Care—And That’s Exactly What We Provide

Children are incredibly perceptive—they remember how they’re made to feel. That’s why parents consistently praise our Head Coach and Owner, Troy, whose unique combination of expertise and genuine care for children sets him apart.

With 47 years of experience teaching thousands of students and founding one of Australia’s largest swim schools, Troy brings unparalleled professional expertise to every lesson. His background also includes years as a Youth Pastor and counsellor, giving him deep insight into child development, confidence-building, and emotional well-being.

When you entrust us with your child, you’re placing them in skillful, caring hands.
What Sets Us Apart

Our small group format is intentionally designed to give your child the individual attention they deserve. Rather than getting lost in large classes, your child will:
â€˘    Develop essential water safety skills in a supportive environment
â€˘    Build meaningful friendships with peers
â€˘    Gain confidence that extends far beyond the pool
â€˘    Develop resilience through encouragement and age-appropriate challenges
In our small groups, every child is seen, heard, and celebrated for their unique progress.

Your child won’t just learn to swim—they’ll thrive.
